Far, far from home

Far, far from home
In this land of despair.
Far, far from home,
How I long to be there.

Clouds send news of rain coming soon
Dark, cold, wet in the afternoon
How I long for the summer skies,
How I long for the sun to rise.

Rain pours down  - see the passers by.
We see that sky; its clouds they frown.
Oh how I long, log for the Son,
How I long for his loving arms

Far, far from home
In that land of despair
Far, far from heaven,
How he longed to be there.

Sky sent news of doom coming soon
Dark, cold, wet on that afternoon.
How he longed for the summer skies,
How he longed as the Son to rise

Far, far from home
In this land of despair
Far, far from home
How I long for Jesus to come.

Beautiful feet

Across distant mountains he runs,
We see him bound over the hills.
News of peace and pardon he brings,
Our hearts with salvation he thrills.

He speaks peace and he brings Good News
'Salvation!' he preaches to all
'Our God reigns!' we watchmen enthuse,
'Great Zion stands never to fall.'

Our Lord God will roll up his sleeve,
All nations will see salvation.
His children will no longer grieve,
Our God will return to Zion.

Keep running as fast as you can,
The seed of the word must be sown
In places where others once ran,
In places where Christ is unknown.

A Large Stone

There's a large stone,
I've not seen in a while.
I used to sit on it alone,
And with my sister too.
In our garden
Come winds that blow,
Come rain or snow.

A picture's shown
Of my mother sat there.
My oldest son gives her a hug,
He's standing behind her.
My mother's gone,
My son is grown,
Still stands the stone.

The Old Rising Sun

There was a pub in Newport town
They called the Rising Sun
They changed it to the Harlequin;
It's now a restaurant.
My mother was a Thomas
She sewed my old blue jeans,
My father came from Corpor Road
They lived up in Cwmbran.

I once met gransha in that pub,
Into that haunt he'd slunk.
He looked so very satisfied,
He was a little drunk.
Oh mother tell your children
Why the name of Harlequin
Is still found on the roundabout
And how it was The Rising Sun

I have one foot on the platform
The other on a train
And I'm goin' back to Newport town,
It looks like it might rain.
Yeah, there was a pub in Newport town
They called The Rising Sun,
I remember it from when a boy
And I'm not the only one.

Covenant

Made a cov'nant with my eyes
To look into the skies
When pretty girls go by
I've learned to love the sky.

To be Frank

I was a thousand miles from Wales,
So I could not attend,
As would a family member, friend,
The fun'rals for Frank and Frank.

Frank I'd known for all my life
And Frank about two score.
The one has gone to heaven above,
The other, I'm not sure.

They both were sinners, it is clear,
Though one had been to pris'n.
One only liked too much his beer,
The other had done worse.

It is the one who did what's worse,
The one who went to prison
Who I'm convinced is now in heav'n,
Although that seems perverse.

My mother's brother did not turn
And trust in Christ, it seems,
But brother Frank had come to learn
That faith in Christ redeems.

The donkeys of Grahamstown, South Africa

You hear them at night
Though they are not in sight.
The donkeys of Grahamstown,
Let's award them a crown.

You see them by day,
Are they hunting for hay?
The donkeys of Grahamstown,
Let's award them a crown.

You see them by day,
Two pulling a dray.
The donkeys of Grahamstown,
Let's award them a crown.

Rememb'ring hot sand
Childhood rides on the strand.
The donkeys of Grahamstown,
Let's award them a crown.

I think of my Lord,
The Saviour of the world.
Born there in Bethlehem town,
Strips of cloth for a gown.

I think of my Lord,
The Saviour of the world.
Who rode into the town,
Rows of thorns formed his crown.

I hear the beat - a distant sound

I hear the beat - a distant sound,
As my mind runs away.
I travel back, in memories drowned,
To past and long gone days.

I know my life will soon be gone,
My body in the grave,
And so I seek, while here on earth,
To live to God alone.

But low I fall, so quickly fall,
Sometimes I hardly stand.
Without his help, without his love,
I'd be in hell right now.

And so I look, I look to him,
May he my Saviour be,
And though I fall a thousand times,
May he bring me safe home.

Yes, one day I will see his face,
I'll gaze on him at last
And I will feel his loving arms
Around me hold me fast.

Though still I sin

Though still I sin and miss the mark
All my sin has been revoked
And I'm no longer in the dark

Though still I sin and cross the line
All my sin is covered o'er
The Saviour Jesus he is mine

Though still I sin and twist my way
All my sin has been forgiven
And I must serve him every day

Vote for me, I'm the greatest yet!
Vote for me, I am your best bet!
Vote for me, you will not regret!
Vote for me, I will clear the debt!
Vote for me, think how much you'll get!
Vote for me, yes, join the jet set!

I like red apples

I like red apples,
She likes green.
I love her so much
But we're not the same.

She'll steadily burn
The fire slow to fade.
I shoot splutt'ring sparks
Quickly they turn.

We're diff'rent I said
But I love her so.
She likes green apples,
And I like red.

My sons

When I think of my sons
I'm all of a quiver
To think such joy comes
Because I am with her.

When I think of my sons
I honour the Giver
Whose love for us runs
And never will wither.

When I think of my sons
I think of a river
That from God's throne comes
From shame to deliver.

Sin

I touch the dirt between the cracks
That beats the constant scrub.
Dust settles on the cleanest wax,
Despite the ragged rub.

Grease gets under my fingernails,
Filth fills my open pores;
The grime of all these wasted years,
Washed scarce by salty tears.

And when I think beneath the skin,
Pierce the hard heart within,
I know the muck's not paper thin;
I lose, I never win.

So what can clean? How will I wash
The grained in grime of sin?
My only hope, my saving plea
Is Jesus' blood of God.
